JESY Nelson has revealed she “had” to make a music video with Little Mix just a week after suicide attempt.

The 30-year-old has told how her mum was furious that she went straight back to work – despite her mental health struggles.

The singer spoke of her overdose in her award-winning BBC documentary Odd One Out in 2019.

According to the Mail Online, the star has told Fearne Cotton’s podcast Happy Place: “Yeah. Well, I just remember obviously the first time, so obviously I’d taken an overdose. I went into hospital and then I had a music video like a week after…

“And obviously my mum found out and she was distraught and she was outright: ‘This is it, you’re not doing this anymore’.

“Because my mum’s the kind of mum that’s like, ‘Jes, we couldn’t give a s**t what you do as long as you’re happy…That’s all I care about’,

“So she was like, ‘No. This isn’t happening anymore. I’m like not putting my foot down and you’re coming out of this.’

“And obviously I didn’t know what to do at the time because it was very early stages of Little Mix as well.”

Jesy has told how she constantly questioned whether she was “as skinny” as her bandmates when she made music videos with Little Mix.

She admits feeling “miserable and trapped” in the girl group and wasn’t “living the dream” like Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards.

YOU’RE NOT ALONE

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide.

It doesn’t discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.

It’s the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.

Yet it’s rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.

That is why The Sun launched the You’re Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Let’s all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others… You’re Not Alone.

If you, or anyone you know, needs help dealing with mental health problems, the following organisations provide support:

Jesy quit Little Mix in December and is set to unveil her debut solo single BOYZ, featuring Nicki Minaj, this Friday.

She added: “I guess the thing that I’m better with now is that I see little things now when I do a music video. I’m not looking on the camera and thinking, oh my God, I don’t look as skinny as Jade, Leigh-Anne and Perrie…

“And that’s what I did every single day and, for the first time ever, I did my music video and I enjoyed it. I absolutely loved it and I was like, this is the feeling I should have had the whole time.”

I felt very miserable and trapped and I knew that, that wasn’t right.”

Jesy went on to tell Fearne that her constant scrutiny of herself also made her feel bad for her bandmates.

“Also, it wasn’t nice for Jade, Leigh-Anne and Perrie to be around when I was so down, they we’re living their dream and I wasn’t,” she added.

“I felt very miserable and trapped and I knew that, that wasn’t right.”
